The UK's only entirely therapeutic prison is holding a recruitment open day later this month.

The event at HMP Grendon, in Buckinghamshire, is designed to illustrate the career opportunities available at the prison as well as offering the chance to meet some of the staff at the facility.

The prison is seeking people with good at communication and decision-making skills, and who can demonstrate caring and understanding, and can show good influencing skills.

There are no qualifications required for the role of a prison officer or an operational support position.

New recruits can expect a starting salary of £30,902, and with the prison recently described as "one of the safest in the country" in a recent inspection report, employees can also look forward to a secure work environment.

The report also found prisoners were making "remarkable progress" due to its therapeutic approach.

Custodial manager, Russ Bowen, joined the prison service in 2007 after leaving his career as a chef in search of a better work-life balance.

He said: "Working in a prison can be challenging work, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see and work with prisoners who want to change their lives around."

He added: "HMP Grendon is a unique prison to work in as it is just one of two therapeutic prisons offering prisoners a range of accredited therapy to help them better understand their own behaviour and offending.

"When prisoners at HMP Grendon want to change for the better, it’s really rewarding when you can be the person to help them do that.

"HMP Grendon is different to other prisons as it functions as a therapeutic community, but there is so much variety in the work that we do and there are ample opportunities to progress or other areas of work to move into.

The Ministry of Justice launched their first national TV and radio campaign last autumn.

This call signalled the start of a concerted effort to recruit prison and probation officers.

HMP Grendon's recruitment open day will take place at the prison on January 27.
