Chinnor have continued their summer recruitment drive with the signing of brothers Mark and Andrew Darlington from Dutch side RC ‘t Gooi.

The Darlington brothers, a hooker and tighthead prop combination, return to England after nearly seven years overseas together.

They spent two seasons in Australia, before moving back to Europe to play in Holland in 2010.

Mark, 30, is a former Newcastle Falcon, while Andrew, 26, became the first rugby player to be invited into the full-time High Performance National Training Centre in Holland.

Director of rugby, Matt Williams was pleased to welcome the siblings to Chinnor.

He said: “After meeting the boys it was obvious they had the right qualities I am looking to bring to the club – hunger and desire to keep learning.

“Being brothers they also have a special bond you cannot buy, particularly in the front row.”

Williams added: “I’m excited to see how they flourish back on home soil”.

Meanwhile, James Tyas has been named as captain for the 2015-16 season, taking over from former London Welsh forward Alfie To’oala.

Flanker Tyas, 23, joined from Worcester Warriors in January of this year and Williams has nothing, but praise for his new skipper.

“From the moment James arrived it was clear he was a natural leader on the field,” added Williams.

“He is also well respected off the field and will be a force to be reckoned with this year.

“His work rate, ball carrying and turn over skills are superb.”

To’oala has joined Clifton after Chinnor opted not to take up the second year option on his contract.

Williams said: “When Alfie was on the pitch he was a great talisman for the club and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Chinnor begin their campaign with an away trip to Southend on September 5.

Williams’ side will prepare for the new season with friendlies against Coventry (August 8), Birmingham & Solihull (August 15) and Rosslyn Park (August 28).
